Genshin Impact 2.6 banner might have Itto and Xiao rerun

Every new update in Genshin Impact usually includes a wealth of fresh material, such as new playable characters, monsters, and locations to discover, and generally lasts about 45 days. The updates are split into two banner cycles, each with a different set of characters and weaponry.

A new character, Ayato along with Venti and Ayaka rerun were added to Genshin Impact Version 2.6, and fans were expecting the next update to go live on May 11.

Moreover, players are looking forward to the 2.7 update, which is also set to introduce a slew of new content to the game like two new characters - Yelan and Kuki Shinobu along with fresh series of events, and leaks have also revealed a ton of data about it.

However, according to some new rumors in the community, there are chances that the Genshin Impact 2.7 release date may get delayed while bringing Itto and Xiao double banner in version 2.6.

Because of the worrying Covid condition in Shanghai (the city's prolonged lockdown), several players suggest that the game's future upgrades, most notably Genshin Impact version 2.7, may be postponed. Read on to find the details.

Adding to this, a popular Twitter leaks aggregator account, @SaveYourPrimos has also mentioned the possibility of 2.7 being delayed by 2 - 3 weeks due to the severity of the Covid situation in Shanghai.

In their post, it was stated that "the lockdown scenario in Shanghai is really, really horrible right now. We politely ask to show respect when discussing the topic and/or how it affects the game's current development timeline."

It was additionally revealed that "rumors of this delay containing a short filler banner are also floating around, but this claim has less support than the first."

However, given that the next Ayaka banner is guaranteed to be three weeks, which is usual for a banner cycle, the statement has sparked a number of misunderstandings. This suggests that following Ayaka, a third banner will very certainly be introduced.

We also have new leaks that suggest that Genshin Impact 2.6 might have Itto and Xiao double banner rerun.

Recently a post was made on the NGA account, revealing that "Due to covid (Shanghai under lockdown), 2.6 might be extended with the addition of a banner after Ayaka’s banner ends. Itto+Xiao double rerun banner, 2.6 is extended by 3 weeks. 2.7 is shortened to only Yelan’s banner, followed by 2.8.”

Moreover, we also had a previous leak from an Uncle revealing that Itto will not be rerunning solo. It was stated that "Itto + a male char who just got his own artifact set (aka Xiao) will have banner reruns. This will be right after Ayaka’s banner, but not in the new version/patch."

Clearly, we have lots of speculations and leaks hinting that the Genshin Impact 2.7 release date would be postponed.

The leak is not entirely unbelievable as Keqing appeared as a filler banner between Xiao and Hu Tao in Genshin Impact version 1.3, which was a similar situation. If true, then it is highly likely that Kuki Shinobu will feature on the Genshin Yelan banner in the 2.7 update, which seems to be good news for many.

Genshin Impact 2.7 release date delayed - rumors

Recently, the developers shared the Event Preview for the second portion of Version 2.6 on April 13, indicating the dates for the upcoming Marvelous Merchandise event, a previously released and popular Genshin Impact event.

Along with the banner, the official English account of Genshin Impact twitted the images of the upcoming events, Vibro-Crystal Research, Ley Line Overflow.

However, another Liben event called "Genshin Impact 2.6 Marvelous Merchandise event" was announced in CN Genshin Impact (BiliBili), which is scheduled right after the leyline event that is supposed to be the last event of version 2.6.

It was revealed that the Genshin 2.6 Marvelous Merchandise event will begin on May 6th and will go on till May 13th. And this is exactly what has ignited the rumor mill in the Genshin community.

The fact that Genshin 2.6 Marvelous Merchandise has been scheduled to last through May 13, it is indicative that the 2.6 version is going to overlap Version 2.7 as, since the game's introduction, Genshin Impact has always followed a six-week update cycle, therefore Version 2.7 should be available on May 11.

It has been suggested that probably due to the Covid situation in China at the moment, the Spices from the West event has been canceled which was originally planned as the last event for version 2.6. Another reason for the removal of Spices from the West event could be the continuous fixing process of the teapot placement.

Now, Shanghai, where HoYoverse (Genshin Impact developer) has its headquarters, is seeing its biggest Covid outbreak since the pandemic began in late 2019. Since March 28, the lockdown in Shanghai has been in effect and is affecting game developers in the city.

The fact that the HoYoverse is under the lockdown region could be one of the reasons why the Serenitea Pot maintenance, which began on March 30 with the release of 2.6, has yet to be completed.

However, these are only speculations for now, but if we go by the previous leaks and schedule then it has been revealed that players will get the following Genshin 2.7 banners:

  • Genshin Impact Yelan banner
  • Genshin Impact Itto banner rerun
  • Genshin Impact Xiao banner rerun

Moreover, in terms of the Genshin 2.6 banner, officially we only have the Ayaka banner rerun which will show up on the 19th of April 2022 at 18:00 PM (UTC +8) and will end on the 10th of May 2022 at 15:00 PM (UTC +8).

The COVID 19 outbreak in Shanghai is extremely alarming, and it's no surprise that game creators are finding it difficult to complete their ideas on time. However, HoYoverse has yet to formally address speculations about a 2.7 release date delay, filler 2.6 banners, and how the lockdown scenario is influencing the production of Genshin Impact.

So, it would be ideal to wait for the official words from the developers.
