The Japanese video game series and media franchise created and owned by Sega, the multinational video game company, Sonic the Hedgehog has a massive fan base around the world. If you are into the golden era of video games that was the 90’s, you have probably heard of it, if not being a fan of it.

So it comes as no surprise that when a leak revealing a Lego Sonic the Hedgehog set came out recently, ahead of a highly anticipated official announcement, the Internet seemed hungry to know very detail about it.

For those of you who are not familiar with this famous video game, here’s a short intro: Sonic the Hedgehog follows the story of a hedgehog named Sonic attempting to free his animal friends from the evil Dr. Ivo Robotnik, who has the animal population of the South Island trapped inside aggressive robots and stationary metal capsules.

Dr. Robotnik plans to steal the six Chaos Emeralds and harness their power. And it is the player’s job to not let that happen.

The Lego Sonic the Hedgehog set is listed for resale on the well-know online marketplace Mercado Libre. From the looks of it, the Lego Sonic the Hedgehog set is a Lego version of the famous Green Hill Zone. The Lego Sonic the Hedgehog set even has the gold rings and a figure of Dr. Robotnik.

As already stated, the Lego Sonic the Hedgehog set is listed on Mercado Libre. The set showcases a the Green Hill Zone from the video game, which is the first level, grassy and lush, with palm trees, cliffs and vertical loops, as well as being the home of the forest animals.

The Lego Sonic the Hedgehog set is included under the Lego Ideas brand, where anybody can submit a Lego set of their liking and if it receives over 10,000 votes, the set takes a chance of being released as a real product.

Jordan Miller, a games’ critic, tweeted an image of the cover of the box of the Lego Sonic the Hedgehog set, with the caption “There’s yer Sonic Lego set leaked.”

Somewhere at the start of this year, Lego announced that its review board had decided to release Viv Grannell’s Sonic Mania – Green Hill Zone set as a real product.

Lego said, “We’re excited to collaborate with Sega and Viv to bring one of the most iconic game characters and brands to life via Lego bricks on the basis of Viv’s colourful and fun creation.”

Though they did not share any details regarding the Lego Sonic the Hedgehog set, Lego said that they were still planning pricing, availability and the final product design and that more specifics will be available later on.

The original set that was submitted to Lego Ideas has above 700 Lego pieces, with the landscape inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog’s Green Hill Zone. Along with that there are Badniks and an Egg Robot Mech. Sharing their thoughts about the release of their set, Grannell said, “I’ve been invested in the world of Sonic for almost my entire life, and it’s such a perfect fit for the Lego system that I spent about a year rallying support for it to happen.”

Wagner’s, the German retailer, also listed a Lego Horizon Zero Dawn Tallneck set, before taking it down. The image of the set was never included.
