LoL 14.3 Patch: Other Changes

In addition to the above changes, we have some other gameplay and ranked changes, addressing concerns like Bard's tankiness and damage output, ongoing discussions about Crit vs Leth on Marksmen, and monitoring items like Sundered Sky, Hubris, and others. Additionally, ranked issues such as initial placement bugs, tier boundary demotions, and D1/Masters LP gains are being addressed.

While discussing these changes, Phoxron said,

Gameplay

  • Bard is building too tanky right now, while doing a lot of damage. We'll investigate getting him onto some more squishy builds (or if he's building tanky, take a damage tradeoff for that).
  • Meep tuning is pretty difficult on short timelines though, that's something that requires a bit more of a soak time, so expect it the earliest next patch
  • Zeri is receiving changes on top of a rec item change (communicated that poorly y'day)
  • Wukong buffs are targeted at top lane
  • Crit vs Leth on Marksmen are an ongoing discussion. Nothing to share just yet though
  • We're continuing to monitor Sundered Sky, Hubris and other items that seem strong.
  • Sundered sky is receiving some stat adjustments to bring its damage down and health up

Ranked

Initial Placement Bugs

  • We've been triaging some bugs where some players' MMR is being seeded in the right place for their first ever ranked game, but their visual rank is seeded too high (often Gold).
  • This is leading to situations where the player then gets massive negative LP gains until they drop to Bronze/Silver
  • We think we have a fix though and hope to have it in the next patch

Tier Boundary Demotions

  • Players who lost a lot at tier boundaries and then won are sometimes in states where they have negative LP gains, even with 50% winrate
  • Demotion is still feeling too lenient, so we're going to make it a little less lenient in future patches to address these

D1/Masters LP Gains

  • There are 2% of players here in these specific brackets that are getting negative LP gains, but everyone above should be OK
  • The root cause was due to some unfortunate side effects in our original configurations, there's not much we can do to fix people in this state right now
  • Playing will eventually stabilize you over around 30 games or so and we've pushed a fix to stop it from occurring moving forward, but it will be painful for a bit

LoL 14.3 Patch: ARAM Balance Changes

ARAM mode will witness balance changes, with nerfs to TF, Karma, and Briar, and buffs to Hwei, and Zed. Tentative nerfs are also in place for ARAM-specific items like Malignance, Stormsurge, Sundered Sky, and Hubris.

LoL 14.3 Patch – New Champion Smolder

Smolder is a new ADC champion with dual character dynamics. While adventuring around Summoner’s Rift, Smolder's abilities involve his mother, a larger and more formidable beast. Designed primarily for the bot lane, Smolder might find a place in the mid-lane as well. Here are all of Smolder's abilities:

Smolder Passive – Dragon Practice

Hitting champions with abilities and killing enemies with Super Scorcher Breath grants Smolder a stack of Dragon Practice. Stacks increase the damage to Smolder’s basic abilities.

Smolder Q – Super Scorcher Breath

Smolder belches flames at his enemies. This ability evolves with stacks, gaining the following:

  • 25: Damages all enemies surrounding the target.
  • 125: Sends explosions behind the target that deal 75 percent of this spell’s damage.
  • 225: Burns the target, dealing max health true damage over three seconds. Enemy champions that drop below a total health threshold while burning are killed instantly.

Smolder W – Achooo!

Smolder lets out an adorable flaming sneeze, damaging and slowing enemies hit. Hitting champions causes an additional explosion.

Smolder E – Flap, Flap, Flap

Smolder takes flight, gaining move speed and ignoring terrain for 1.25 seconds. While flying, Smolder attacks the lowest health enemy.

Smolder R – MMOOOMMMM!

Smolder’s mom breathes fire from above, dealing extra damage and slowing enemies in the center of her fire. Smolder’s mom also heals her son if she hits him.
