| Destiny 3 in “Extremely Early Development”, Claims Bungie Insider |
For years, fans of the Destiny franchise have been waiting for news about a true sequel to Destiny 2. After the release of The Final Shape in June 2024, which concluded the Light and Darkness saga, many players felt that the series was ready for a fresh start. Instead, Bungie launched Edge of Fate, the beginning of the new Fate saga, but the response from the community has been mixed.
With Destiny 2’s player count hitting record lows and uncertainty about the franchise’s direction, fans have been eager for a proper Destiny 3 announcement.
Destiny 3: What We Know
A well-known Destiny leaker and dataminer, Colony Deaks, recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Destiny 3 is in “extremely early development” at Bungie. According to Deaks, the information has been held back for weeks because the project is so early, and the team wanted to wait before sharing it publicly.
Colony Deaks has a solid track record with accurate leaks about Destiny and Marathon, so this news carries weight, even though it’s not officially confirmed.
Deaks stated, “Yes, Destiny 3 is in extremely early development. Some of you may have seen a tweet early this afternoon that mentioned that. We have been sitting on the info for a few weeks now and wanted to wait to talk about this seeing as it is in such an early state, and it just sucks to see others post about it carelessly for free internet points. We plan to share more info in the coming months as we wait on the larger scale things to develop and take shape. Sit tight.”

What’s Next for Destiny?
Bungie has not commented on these claims, and officially, the studio is still focused on Destiny 2’s Fate Saga and the upcoming Year of Prophecy. The studio recently pushed the full Destiny 2 roadmap and State of the Game into 2026, indicating that long-term plans are still being locked in. If Destiny 3 is real, a realistic guess is that it won’t launch for at least four to five years, possibly around 2029 or 2030.
It’s also worth noting that Bungie was working on a separate Destiny spinoff game, codenamed Payback, led by longtime studio veterans Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy. That project was reportedly shut down in mid-June, and both leaders quietly exited the studio around the same time.
Well, the leaked information about Destiny 3 is giving fans new hope, but it’s important to remember that projects in extremely early development can change direction, get rebooted, or even be cancelled.
Destiny 2 remains one of the best FPS shooters and a beloved franchise among fans. With the right direction and development, Destiny 3 has the potential to be huge. However, for now, all information is based on leaks, and nothing has been officially confirmed.
