Apple Event

Apple would not be Apple were it not for one of its most important flagship products, the iPhone. Maybe that’s why these guys have an annual fall event that is centered around iPhones. This time, they are trying to do something different with an in-person component, meaning there will be media personalities who will test the new devices out.

Now, we have had our ears pricked for any new iPhones for a long time now and we have gathered a database of knowledge.

In this post, we’ll explore in depth what we can expect to see this fall’s September 7 Apple event. Also, we will be discussing some possibilities based on current rumors.

iPhone 14

If you are a fan of iPhones and eagerly await each new release in this series, you would know that the iPhone mini, which has a 5.4-inch display, has seen rather insipid sales. Apple has decided that iPhone 13 mini will be the last one in the series. But that’s not to say that Apple isn’t developing other phones in the iPhone series. There are four iPhones in the pipeline this year.

The 6.7-inch display models are taking the place of the 5.4-inch ones. There’s the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus (or it could be titled iPhone 14 Max), the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max that is slated to launch this year. It was said that the standard 6.7-inch iPhone would be titled iPhone 14 Max, according to the usual Pro Max scheme, but the leaks pull us towards the conclusion that it could be called iPhone 14 Plus.

The design aspects of the iPhone 14s would be the same as those of the iPhone 13 models, as well as the Face ID notch. Also, don’t expect there to be the ProMotion technology in these iPhones. Most of the changes would only be made to the Pro models. In fact, and this is stretching the line a little thin, leaks claim that iPhone 14 and 14 Max would be continuing with the A15 chips that were used in the iPhone 12 models. Say goodbye to the updated A15 chips. Look at these new models as a renovation of the iPhone 13s and not an entirely new series.

That being said, these new iPhones won’t be entire without new features either. For example, there is the upgraded Ultra Wide camera, which was a feature of last year’s iPhone 13, plus an upgraded front-facing camera having a wider f/1.9 aperture and autofocus capabilities. The RAM range will begin from 4 GB, with a 6 GB upgrade option.

The iPhone 14 will also apparently have the updated Snapdragon X65 10 Gigabit 5G modem from Qualcomm. This modem is supposed to have advanced satellite connectivity features, meaning there’s a possibility of some satellite-based emergency features to enable texts in emergency conditions and report major emergencies in areas with little to no cellular coverage. There’s the expected WiFi 6E support, and joining the color palette of black, white, red, and blue is the alleged purple. The pricing is supposed to start from $799.

iPhone 14 Pro

The Pro line is going to be updated significantly, it seems. The 6.1 and 6.7-inch sizes won’t change but the notch is going away. Replacing that will be a pill-shaped cutout and a hole-punch cutout. These will take care of the front-facing camera and the TrueDepth system that is required for Face ID. Some Apple software will do its magic to make these distinct cutouts into one.

When in use, the space between the cutouts would be blackened, giving the entire system a more stylized look. But Apple being Apple, it doesn’t stop there. Rumors say that this blackened-out space will house the microphone and camera indicator lights. The net result won’t change because of this.

iPhone 14 Pro will have a 1Hz to 120 Hz ProMotion display, meaning the screen will have the Always-On function, much like the Apple Watch. As for the cameras, it appears that this device will introduce one of the biggest camera updates to Apple. The front camera will have the f/1.9 aperture and autofocus capabilities.

A larger and more prominent bump will be necessary for the new 48-MP Wide lens with a 21% larger sensor, allowing for high-resolution images and 8K video recording. The telephoto lens will be upgraded to have a 7-element lens. 6GB RAM is expected, with a Snapdragon X65 10 Gigabit 5G modem, WiFi 6E, and up to 2 TB storage. Plus, purple is being added to the existing graphite, gold, and silver.

Of course, such things don’t come cheap. The rumors say iPhone Pro will start at $1,099 and iPhone Pro Max at $1,199.

Apple Watch Series 8

No design changes are expected to impact Apple Watch Series 8, which will be pretty similar to Apple Watch Series 7. There will be the standard 41 and 45mm sizes, and the S8 chip will overall be the same as the S7. A new feature that supposedly detects body temperature is expected to be included. This could be used for fertility planning and also for detecting abnormal body temperatures. Measuring body temperature is a tricky business, and this watch won’t be able to measure an accurate value. Apple is thinking of presenting changes over time.

Car crash and fall detection could be a part of the Apple Watch Series 8. The accelerometer detects the spike in gravitational force and then alerts an emergency service. Also, updated activity tracking is a possibility, though the details are unknown. An updated low-power mode will be a part of this watch. This mode will allow for more functions to work rather than just limiting them.

Apple Watch Pro

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the Apple Watch Pro will be an “evolution of the current rectangular shape.” This ‘pro’ version is an advanced Apple Watch Series 8 in a way. The display will be larger than the 45mm Apple Watch Series, measuring 2 inches diagonally, 0.1 inches more than the diagonal size of the earlier version. The resolution of the display will be 410 x 502. The extra screen is supposed to be used for some fitness metrics. The bigger size is also said to support and larger battery life.

With the combination of the low power mode which could last more than a full day, lengthier workouts can be incorporated now.

The Apple Watch Pro will also be a tougher device in comparison to the Apple Watch Series. Its target audience is those who take interest in extreme sports and such intense activities. Made from a titanium alloy, it will have a shatter-resistant display. And as always, this means the price tag will soar up. The estimate right now is somewhere between $900 and $1,000.

Apple Watch SE

This is the most obscure part of the event. Leaks say that a cheaper version of the Apple Watch SE is in the pipeline and will come out alongside the Apple Watch Series 8. Maybe there’ll be faster processor chips and an always-on display. At this point, however, everything is tentative.

What else to expect from the upcoming Apple event?

There’s a chance of a second event happening in October that will reveal the new AirPods and iPads that are allegedly in the pipeline right now.

AirPods Pro 2

It’s high time to update the AirPods Pro as they haven’t been touched since their launch in 2019, and 2022 is the year for that. Recent leaks say that this update will incorporate the same design with silicon ear tips and a stem. The charging case is claimed to have speakers that will chuck out a sound when these priceless AirPods get lost. This will work alongside the improved Find My integration. The acoustics will be better with the AirPods 3 with an updated H1 chip with self-adaptive noise cancellation capabilities.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, says that the AirPods Pro will feature Apple Lossless (ALAC) audio support. As these earphones use Bluetooth, no AirPods till now have had this feature. That means Apple will have to think about connectivity in other-than-Bluetooth terms. AirPods Pro is claimed to have the usual Lightning port.

10th-Generation iPad

The leaks say that Apple is combining low-cost with updated design to have a new iPad quite similar to the iPad mini 6. Flat edges and rounded corners will be present, as well as a Touch ID Home button, with thicker bezels than other versions. A 10.5-inch display, a USB-C port, a quicker A14 chip, a single-lens rear camera, 5G connectivity, and a front-facing camera complete the list of design features. Note that there won’t be a headphone jack.

iPad Pro

A faster M2 chip is said to come to the existing iPad Pro versions. If this is true, you can expect better efficiency and speed in the iPad Pro. Cost and supply limits have put an end to rumors of the 11-inch iPad Pro getting a mini-LED display. MagSafe wireless and reverse wireless charging are definite possibilities. Also, the Apple Pencil could be getting an update too.
